Recently, as part of our trip to Europe, we redeemed an award ticket for 57,500 American Airlines AAdvantage miles plus $33.60 per ticket for the following outbound itinerary: CVG-JFK-LHR. The New York to London leg was in business class and the Cincinnati to New York leg was in domestic first class. When I told my kids that we were flying “first class” from Cincinnati to New York, they were SIGNIFICANTLY more excited about that than flying in only “business” class from New York to London. No amount of explaining to them what it would be really like would change their mind 🙂

American Airlines Domestic First Class CVG-JFK Mini Review

I’m only going to give a mini-review of this American Airlines Domestic First Class flight since it wasn’t that exciting. Boarding had already started when we walked to our gate from The Club at CVG. At CVG, The Club is in Concourse A, while American (and Delta) fly out of Concourse B. The only lounge in Concourse B is an Escape Lounge which I currently don’t have access to. We quickly boarded and I sat in 3D, which was the aisle seat in the 1-2 configuration of the Embraer plane. My wife sat next to me while my kids sat in row 2D and 2F in front of me.

I know that there has been drama about whether pre-departure beverages are served on these flights, but I was happy to report that we were offered one on our quick flight to New York. We watched everyone else board while we WERE MAKIN MONEY RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOW WE’RE MAKIN MONEY! (though tragically they didn’t even close the curtains so I had to see the “coach people” in my peripheral.

After a short takeoff, we were served the “enhanced” snacks – I got some white cheddar popped chips, which were quite tasty.

The Bottom Line

And after a short (~2 hour) flight, we landed in New York and were on our way to the Greenwich JFK Lounge before flying onward to London. While for me, flying in domestic first class was nothing too exciting, I did appreciate how excited the kids were for their first “first class” flight.
